Renters Rights Bill Nears Completion with Final Lords Debate Set

The Renters Rights Bill is scheduled for its Third Reading in the House of Lords on July 21, marking the final stage of review before the summer recess. This reading provides an opportunity to refine the Bill’s language and ensure its practical application before it returns to the Commons.
Unlike the Commons, the Lords can still propose amendments at this stage, often to clarify key details or resolve inconsistencies. As changes made in the Lords differ from the Commons version, the Bill is expected to enter a brief period of ‘Ping Pong’, with both chambers reviewing and agreeing on a final version.
With Labour’s Commons majority and broad political support, the remaining steps should progress smoothly. Although Royal Assent could theoretically be achieved before the recess begins, the more likely scenario sees final approval in early September, just ahead of the Labour Party conference.
