Twickenham Area Guide

Most famous as the home of the England rugby ground, Twickenham is a popular residential area.

Twickenham’s estate agents have a varied portfolio of properties to offer people interested in moving to the area.

Twickenham became a fashionable place to escape from life at court in the eighteenth century when imposing villas began to appear along the riverfront. The arrival of the railway and opening of the bridge in the nineteenth century heralded a Twickenham property boom with major residential developments which still appeal to commuters today.

As well as this nineteenth and early twentieth century housing stock, Twickenham properties include a wealth of 1930s semis, Georgian terraces and cottages on the borders of Marble Hill Park, Victorian and Edwardian houses in central Twickenham and a collection of Georgian cottages on the triangle of roads around the Green.

Shopping
Twickenham’s shopping has improved dramatically in recent years and now includes an M&S and Laura Ashley Home. Twickenham is also close to the major shopping areas of Kingston and Richmond.

Restaurants
There are a number of new eateries in Twickenham and those prepared to travel slightly out of town head for Teddington.

Twickenham Stadium
The home of English rugby, Twickenham stadium is currently being expanded to seat 82,000. On match days the area is swamped with fans who are friendly and respectful to local residents.

Transportation
There are frequent direct services from London Waterloo, Clapham Junction, Staines, Windsor and Eton Riverside and Reading and intermediate stations. The London Underground District Line runs to Richmond from where there are frequent buses to the centre of town and the stadium.
