Richmond Area Guide

Richmond sits just 20 minutes from central London, but feels more like you are much further out. With over 2,500 acres of Royal Parks and miles of riverbank to stroll along, Richmond offers the ideal combination of rural countryside and sophisticated urban living.

Featherstone Leigh is the most well connected estate agent in Richmond with a branch network that thoroughly covers the whole Royal Borough of Richmond-upon-Thames which extends from Hammersmith Bridge to Hampton Court, comprising areas of Barnes, Richmond, Ham, Petersham, Kew, Twickenham, Whitton, Teddington, Hampton Wick, Hampton and St Maragrets

Good transport links, excellent shopping facilities, first rate schools and a wealth of restaurants, bars and cafes make the area highly attractive to many. As a consequence, Richmond’s estate agents will be hard pushed to find you a bargain property.

The exclusive Richmond Green and Richmond Hill areas are surrounded by grand Georgian houses which are owned by the rich and famous, including the area’s most notorious resident, Mick Jagger.

Small cottages, flat conversions and mansion block apartments are available but, like any Richmond property, they come at a price. St. Margaret’s on the opposing bank of the Thames offers more cost effective living with the exception of the St Margarets Trust grounds where prices can equal those achieved in Richmond.

New homes in Richmond are gradually becoming more common, for example Thames Close is a new, gated riverside development in Hampton Village.

And for those that want to get even closer to the river, several people have taken to the water on house boats moored on Hampton Court Road.

Octagon Developments have recently redeveloped the former grounds at Brunel University into a smart new development of houses and apartments adjacent to the river.

Richmond is steeped in history and as a result 1,126 of its buildings are listed and there are 63 designated Conservation Areas in the borough.

Culture and entertainment Arts and entertainment have flourished in the area, with Richmond now home to several theatres, a television centre, a film studio and many art galleries.

The late Victorian Richmond Theatre has been recently restored, and hosts a wide and varied programme with many international stars and West End previews with audiences of over 300,000 a year.
